![]() ![]() That is how I found CW and another Cake Slaver Fan. Is that center star pattern from a specific era? I was looking for an image to send to my Mother. The photo I posted was an image I found on the internet. My friend shipping it, said "no it does not have the star center". I can not wait till my Slaver arrives from AZ I bought it from a shop while I was on vacation. TallCakes, You have this too!!! And my Mother taught me to Bake and I tweak them too, I love baking. I like trying new ideas and tweaking recipes to make them my own. My mom's the one who taught me baking and I've been doing it ever since. What I read did say that the rum well was used to keep the cakes moist before saran wrap came out.But what I just realized as I wrote that was, wasn't that what they made the covers for? I think maybe the bakers just liked the whiskey :) (wanted to make sure I wrote my comment correctly I'm not one that bakes) Wish I could, I love fresh baked anything! Carrot Cake YUM! My MIL always kept a jigger of Jack Daniels under the dome with her jam cakes. However, some old timers did use liquor (whiskey or rum, or whatever) to help keep their cakes moist. Thought is that the depression was part of the design to accommodate heat dissipation when joining the stem and plateau but really no one knows for sure. There term 'rum well' as it pertains to cake stands is one that no one really knows where it came from as it isn't noted in any of the old catalogs. Made my special carrot cake for sis last week. ![]() I too am a baker these days mostly b'day cakes for family and friends. Simply Amazing!!! I'm not a baker, I either burn it or don't cook it enough, so when I saw "rum well" I looked it up and it's just what it sounds like.Interesting and something I would have never known.
